Xena
Meet Xena!
Xena is a 2 year old Husky mix that is a very sweet girl! Xena was living outside this winter with no doghouse and she was pregnant. An ADPR volunteer heard about Xena and took her a dog house and ADPR was able to help the owner see that she could not care for her or her puppies properly.
Xena was doing the best she could to take care of her pups but it was discovered she had an infection. Xena was taken to the vet and we were told she couldn't nurse anymore for her and her pups safety. She was so malnourished she was very susceptible to infections and also has a torn ACL. Xena was immediately placed on medication and in time she will need surgery to fix the torn ACL. At this point she is hesitant to put her foot down but has a great attitude and is very loving. She loves humans, loves to go for rides, and she is also very good with other dogs.
Her puppies are being hand fed every 4 hours by the foster mother and are doing great! Thanks to our great foster parents these pups should be ready for adoption in a few weeks.
Xena will need surgery after she is healthy enough to repair this serious knee injury so she can place all four paws on the ground and be a happy healthy dog. We are asking for donations for Xena's surgery which is estimated to cost $2,500.

*Update* This sweet girl had her ACL surgery on January 18th and is recovering well. She still has a long way to go with her rehabilitation/PT for two months. Thank you for those that donated toward her surgery, it was very much appreciated!
*Update* Xena is recovering well. She has started playing with stuffed toys and she likes to carry them around with her. Xena is a very sweet girl. She will get her staples out sometime this week.
*Update* Xena is doing very well. She had gained 3 pounds per her checkup last week and she also had her staples removed. Vet said she is doing great!
