The Alaska Dog & Puppy Rescue (ADPR) was originally formed as a Rescue organization to help meet the needs of the Mat-Su Valley and its pet overpopulation problem. Although we focus more heavily on rescues in the Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage, we work in connection with village rescue groups and air freight companies saving numerous dogs in the Bush and other outlying areas. We have rescued animals from Bethel, Dillingham, Aniak, Dutch Harbor, Mountain Village, Kipnuk, Alakanuk and Toksook, just to name a few.  The dogs and puppies taken in were literally saved from certain death.

As an all-volunteer organization it hasn’t been easy, but thanks to hundreds of dedicated and compassionate volunteers ADPR has continued to grow and succeed.

We continue to rescue every week from the Mat-Su Borough Animal Shelter and Houston Animal Control, as well as the unexpected litters we take in from the public.

Since our beginning in 2003, ADPR has rescued and placed nearly 1,000 dogs a year.  All of our animals are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped and kept in foster care until the right forever home is found for them.

We have a number of goals, big and small. We will continue to rescue, advocate and educate the public on responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering.  One of our goals is to be an asset not only to our rescued dogs and puppies but also to our community. We strive to be advocates for dogs in our community and elsewhere, and to educate the public on responsible pet ownership.

We have not yet reached our biggest goal; to start our own No-Kill Sanctuary in the Mat-Su Valley.  Since 2007 we have been searching, fundraising and campaigning for land to start this sanctuary.  We have established a special account to start saving towards the purchase of land as we continue fundraising and applying for grants.

From animal control facilities, ADPR rescues puppies and adults who pass a standard evaluation, pregnant or nursing moms and their puppies.

From the public, ADPR rescues puppies under four months of age and pregnant or nursing moms and their puppies.
